Participants from all backgrounds are welcome, including parents and caregivers (as well as grandparents), teachers, therapists, carers, nurses and education assistants.

The workshop is designed for anyone wanting to support inclusive communication, participation and language development. No prior learning is required.

Course Overview

Learn how to support your child’s communication in everyday routines in this interactive and fun workshop.

Key Word Sign is the use of signs and natural gestures to support the communication and language development of children and young people (and adults) with communication challenges and complex communication needs.

It may be they are getting frustrated trying to get their message across to you.

These workshops are run by Certified Key Word Sign Presenter, Noah’s Ark Team Leader and Speech Pathologist Alanna Jinks.

Using NDIS Funding
You can even use your child’s NDIS funding to cover the cost of this workshop. Simply complete the checkout process as usual, entering all required details. When you reach the payment stage, select Option 2: Pay Later using my NDIS Funds.

Once your booking is received, a member of the Noah’s Ark team will contact you to finalise a Service Agreement and confirm your enrolment.

This workshop is designed to be a supportive space to learn:

  • More than 80 signs that are useful for interactions and participation in daily life and routines;
  • Discover strategies to support people with diverse communication needs;
  • Practise signs through fun, interactive activities; and
  • Gain confidence in using signs at the same time as talking.
Alanna Jinks
Alanna Jinks SpPath, MSpedInc, CPSP Team Leader/Speech Pathologist
Alanna Jinks is a Team Leader/Speech Pathologist at Noah’s Ark. Alanna has been delivering KWS workshops for 15 years across Australia. Alanna has diverse experiences supporting people with disability across rural and remote and metro Australia. She is motivated to support those with complex communication needs access multimodal communication for relationships and participation in their local communities. Alanna has a particular interest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and literacy, and supported decision making. She is a member of Speech Pathology Australia Ethics Board.
